Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has been impressed by Royal Challengers Bangalore pacer Harshal Patel, who turned the match against Mumbai Indians in just three balls. Gavaskar has praised the fast bowler of RCB for taking the wickets of big hitters like Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard in two consecutive balls. Harshal took the first hat-trick of IPL 2021 by dismissing Hardik, Pollard and Rahul Chahar in three consecutive balls. On the strength of his bowling, Bangalore tasted defeat by 54 runs while thrashing Mumbai all four.
While interacting with Star Sports, Gavaskar said, “A hat-trick is always special. Taking a wicket is special every time, but taking three wickets in three balls is even more special. Took Pollard’s wicket very cleverly as he guessed that Pollard would go outside the crease and obviously Rahul Chahar is not a batsman and we all know this. Taking his wicket was not a big deal. But, taking the wickets of these two strong batsmen Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya was the turning point of the match. Because both of them have the ability to turn the match even on that stage.
Chasing the target of 166 runs, the entire team of Mumbai Indians was all out for just 111 runs. Glenn Maxwell showed all-round play for RCB. The Australian all-rounder had played a stormy innings of 56 runs in 37 balls in the first batting and after that got big wickets of Rohit Sharma and Krunal Pandya in the bowling. Apart from him, Harshal Patel took 4 wickets for just 17 runs in 3.1 overs in which his hat-trick was also included. Captain Kohli also looked in good form and scored his second consecutive half-century.
